Price Regulation - State

FMMOs are required for defined marketing areas, but some states also have state-mandated milk marketing orders. There are currently seven state classified pricing systems (Maine, Montana, Nevada, New York, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Virginia. Just like each FMMO, each state’s marketing order is unique to the regulated area. Beyond the seven state pricing systems, most states have state dairy program(s). This subheading offers resources for each state’s classified pricing system, links to searchable state dairy programs, and other state dairy resources.

These seven states operate state-specific classified dairy marketing orders alongside FMMO. Each state has unique dairy marketing rules and regulations. Summaries, primary and secondary sources are linked below. 

Other State Programs and Resources

The following list is an uncomprehensive list of state dairy programs or dairy divisions, found on each state’s respective Department of Agriculture website. Each state has some dairy division that oversees state dairy programs ranging from regulatory programs, promotion programs, subsidy programs, etc. Most states fall under one of the eleven FMMO jurisdictions. The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) includes each department of agriculture in all fifty states and U.S. territories.
